Core-to-Core insights

EMEA Single Cell & Spatial Core Excellence Summit

Vienna. Two days. Twenty-five speakers. One very big reveal.

This year, we brought core facility leaders from across EMEA together at the historic Palais Auersperg in Vienna. With 60 institutes from 19 countries represented, it was a remarkable opportunity for peer exchange, shared discussion of common challenges, and in-person connection with our team, with representation from bioinformatics, support, and field application teams.

  • The two-day program tackled the issues most pressing for core facilities today: Where are single cell and spatial technologies heading? What does good sample prep really look like? How do you get spatial data right the first time? Sessions ranged from multi-omics and metabolic disease to drug discovery workflows, platform benchmarking, LIMS, and multi-core data sharing strategies.

  • Two panel discussions explored single cell applications across biopharma and academic cores, and modern data storage and sharing strategies. Day one highlighted the success of Flex workflows and FFPE capabilities, while growing interest in Multiome and upstream automation of cell counting and nuclei QC emerged as areas ripe for further exploration. Day two brought a lively discussion on data sharing across cores and the rise of multi-core collaborations. Attendee feedback was clear: peer-led discussions like these are exactly what the community wants at future events.

  • The big reveal: Attendees of the summit were the first in Europe to witness the reveal of Atera, our newest spatial biology platform. Missed it? Read on for upcoming opportunities to see Atera in action.
We're thrilled with the response to this year's edition and already looking ahead to 2027. Fill in the survey below to suggest topics, nominate yourself or a colleague as a speaker, and help choose next year's location.

Open call: Win a Flex Apex experiment

Running a single cell pilot project could be exactly what your users need to make their grant applications competitive. We're launching the EMEA Chromium Flex Apex Grant Program 2026, an opportunity for your user community to generate preliminary data and go after bigger funding.

What's on offer:

  • Grand prize: 16-reaction Flex Apex kit
  • Runner-up ×2: 4-reaction Flex Apex kit each
  • All winners will be able to consult our scientists, from sample prep to data analysis
  • Application deadline is June 15, 2026. Learn more about the program and apply here.
  • For everyone who wants to know more about the program, the selection process and the Flex advantage for their specific experiment, we are hosting an info session on June 2, 2026, at 4 PM CEST.
